As the Emergency Department marks its 10th anniversary, it now provides emergency care to thousands of patients from across the Mornington Peninsula each year.

Acting Peninsula Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer Leo Godino said the anniversary was an opportunity to recognise the contribution of the 68 Emergency Department team members and their role in the community.

“When our Emergency Department opened 10 years ago, we knew there was a need for greater access to emergency care on the Peninsula. The 50 per cent growth in presentations since then shows just how important that service has become for local patients and families,” Mr Godino said.

“What I’m particularly proud of is the team behind that care. Some have been with us since the Emergency Department first opened, and they’ve helped shape the strong, experienced service our community relies on today.”

Several members of the Emergency Department team have been with the service since it opened, including Nursing Unit Manager Sanna Suikkanen, who said the strength of the team had been central to managing increasingly busy shifts.

“We have a very strong team of nurses and doctors in our department, and it’s our teamwork that gets us through the busy days,” Ms Suikkanen said.

The Emergency Department also plays a role in developing the next generation of healthcare professionals, supporting nursing student placements and graduate employment opportunities, as well as medical student placements facilitated with the department’s emergency specialists.

Mr Godino said the hospital was proud of the Emergency Department’s contribution over the past decade and remained focused on meeting the growing healthcare needs of the region.

“Peninsula Private Hospital has a strong connection to this community, and we’re proud to be here for local patients and families when they need us,” he said.

“After 10 years, we have an experienced and dedicated team that knows this region well, and we look forward to continuing to provide high-quality emergency care for many years to come.”
