Enhanced care for Perth women and families as Joondalup Health Campus appoints first midwife to key leadership position

May 26, 2026

Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) has further strengthened its commitment to providing exceptional care to local women and families, by appointing a dedicated leader for its Maternity, Neonatal and Paediatric services.

Anniee O’Doherty, a highly experienced registered nurse and midwife, has been promoted to Deputy Director Clinical Services after managing the hospital’s public midwifery team for several years – it’s the first time a midwife has been appointed to the role of DDCS at JHC.

“Having worked as a midwife for 26 years, both internationally and at Joondalup for more than a decade, I have seen first-hand the difference strong, compassionate care can make for women, babies, and their families,” she said.

“I am passionate about creating services that truly centre women and families in their care. This means continuing to explore and strengthen different models of care, listening to women, and ensuring they feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout their health journey.”

JHC Director of Clinical Services David Dineen says it’s exciting to see a midwife in a key leadership position at the hospital.

“Anniee’s experience as a midwife and as a Clinical Midwife Manager of our public maternity service adds an important depth of clinical understanding and brings needed representation for these specialties to our broader teams,” he said.

“This is a unique offering that ensures we are continuing to grow and invest in services that directly impact our local communities. Building on the already strong relationships between our Maternity, Neonatal and Paediatric services is key to delivering safe, seamless care,” he said.

JHC welcomes about 2,800 babies annually and the Telethon Children’s Ward sees an average of 4,000 patients. In 2024-2025, the hospital’s Emergency Department had more than 20,000 paediatric presentations.
