Subject to completion occurring, from 1 September, the hospital will become Ramsay Private Hospital National Capital, retaining National Capital in recognition of its established identity and connection with Canberra while marking its new chapter as part of Ramsay’s Australian hospital network.

Ramsay Health Care Managing Director and CEO Natalie Davis said Ramsay was looking forward to welcoming the hospital’s 555 employees, who have each been offered a contract to join approximately 35,000 Ramsay colleagues across Australia.

“National Capital has an important place in Canberra’s health system, with strong clinical services and longstanding relationships with doctors, patients and the local community,” Ms Davis said.

“We’re delighted to welcome General Manager Elizabeth Porritt and the National Capital team to Ramsay and look forward to building on those strengths, while investing in areas that can make a real difference to the experience of patients and team members.”

Plans are already underway for investment in the hospital, including a new onsite kitchen that will introduce an on-demand dining experience giving patients greater choice and flexibility over what they eat and when.

Under the new model, patients will be able to order meals from their mobile phone, similar to ordering through a food delivery app, with meals prepared onsite throughout the day and delivered directly to their room. Menu options will cater for a wide range of needs and preferences, including medical diets, allergies, texture-modified meals, and cultural and religious dietary requirements.

Construction of the new kitchen is expected to begin in early 2027, with the facility planned to become operational later in the year. The new kitchen will also create local catering roles in Canberra.

Ms Davis said the new dining model was an example of the practical improvements Ramsay planned to introduce for patients.

“The new kitchen will give patients much more flexibility to choose what they would like to eat and order when it suits them, with meals freshly prepared onsite and delivered to their room,” Ms Davis said.

“We’re also looking forward to working with our doctors, employees and local partners to identify further opportunities to develop services and strengthen the hospital’s contribution to health care in the ACT.”

Ramsay Private Hospital National Capital provides a broad range of medical and surgical services, with established strengths including cardiac care, orthopaedics and oncology.

The hospital is located alongside Canberra Hospital and the Australian National University Medical School.
