Patients in Melbourne's north-east will soon have greater access to private emergency care, with Warringal Private Hospital preparing to open a new 16-bay Emergency Department as the centrepiece of its multi-year $198 Million redevelopments.

The purpose-built department, which will welcome walk-in patients from August 10 before ambulance arrivals commence in September, has been designed to provide timely emergency care for adults and children from 12 months old. It includes dedicated paediatric treatment bays, fast-track treatment areas, resuscitation rooms, acute treatment bays and an isolation room, supported by access to the hospital's specialist medical, surgical and critical care services.

Warringal Private Hospital CEO Maree Mendola said the new Emergency Department marked one of the most significant developments in the hospital's history.

"Opening our Emergency Department will significantly enhance access to emergency healthcare for people across Melbourne's north-east," Ms Mendola said.

"For many years, our hospital has been delivering high-quality surgical and inpatient care. This expansion means we'll now be able to provide emergency care alongside those existing services, ensuring more patients can receive the treatment they need closer to home."

"As demand for healthcare continues to grow, this investment ensures we're well positioned to care for more patients with modern facilities, expanded capacity and access to a broad range of specialist services."

The Emergency Department, forms part of a major redevelopment that has transformed Warringal Private Hospital over the past three-and-a-half years.

Already completed as part of the redevelopment are:

• three additional operating theatres, increasing the hospital's total to 14
• a new 21-bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit
• an upgraded Central Sterilising Services Department
• a new 18-bed Short Stay Unit
• a new main reception and café
• expanded theatre support facilities.

The final stage of the redevelopment, to be completed over coming months, will deliver:

• a new 14-bed Intensive Care Unit with all single rooms
• new cardiac and medical inpatient wards
• additional consulting suites
• a new Day of Surgery Admissions unit
• upgraded catering and staff facilities
• expanded parking with lift access to the new tower.

Once complete, the redevelopment will enable Warringal Private Hospital to care for more patients than ever before, with expanded emergency, surgical, inpatient and critical care services helping meet growing demand for healthcare across Melbourne's north-east.
