Dr Mark Baker and Dr Rupert Snyman each surpassed the milestone after years of dedicated care to the people of Port Macquarie and surrounding regions.

Dr Baker has been caring for local patients for 30 years, with his 1,000 total knee replacements only part of his story. Dr Baker has also performed more than 10,000 other orthopaedic procedures locally.

“I feel honoured to have been part of the teams that have helped so many patients in our community,” Dr Baker said.

“My aim is to improve the lives of as many patients as I can with a wide variety of conditions. Knees are one of the most common joints our patients develop problems with, and it is wonderful that our orthopaedic options and techniques continue to evolve rapidly in this space.”

Dr Rupert Snyman said it was a nice surprise to be told he’d reached the significant milestone, with his focus firmly on his patients, not himself.

“It's been a privilege to help so many local people regain their mobility and enjoy life with less pain,” Dr Snyman said.

“It's been great to see and experience the advancements in recent years, with modern knee replacement surgery designed to offer improved recovery and consistency.

“I'd really like to thank the excellent team at Port Macquarie Private Hospital for their support and professionalism. I've really enjoyed the first 1,000 knees and look forward to helping many more patients. The increased use of technology has allowed us to offer an incredible standard of care here at our local private hospital, which is of great benefit for the community."
