The redevelopment, officially opened today, includes a seventh operating theatre, an expanded day surgery admissions area, upgraded clinical sterilisation facilities and improvements to patient and visitor spaces.

The redevelopment will also create five new jobs across the hospital’s theatre, surgical, recovery and sterilisation teams.

Port Macquarie Private Hospital Chief Executive Officer Moira Finch said the redevelopment was designed around the changing needs of patients, from growing demand for day surgery to increasingly advanced surgical technology.

“More patients are having surgery without needing to stay overnight, while advances in technology are allowing us to offer increasingly complex procedures here in Port Macquarie,” Ms Finch said.

“Our da Vinci robot supports a range of general, gynaecological and urological procedures, with the potential for shorter hospital stays and faster recovery for suitable patients.”

“This investment gives us the capacity and infrastructure to support these advances and continue expanding the surgical care available to our community,” she said.

As the Mid North Coast’s population grows and ages, demand is increasing for care across specialties including orthopaedics, gastroenterology, gynaecology and urology.

Port Macquarie Private Hospital is continuing to develop its services to meet these changing needs, offering interventional gastroenterology procedures and preparing to introduce cardiology procedures in early 2027.

A new day surgery admissions area provides a larger reception and waiting area for patients arriving for procedures, while an upgraded sterilisation department supports the hospital’s growing surgical services.

The redevelopment also includes an upgraded hospital entrance and reception, a larger café and additional patient and visitor parking.
