Australia’s largest private hospital operator, Ramsay Health Care, has welcomed the Crisafulli Government’s announcement of $100 million of additional funding for Surgery Connect Surge, which will help to fast-track elective surgical procedures for patients waiting in the public system.
Queensland Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Tim Nicholls visited Greenslopes Private Hospital to announce an additional 10,000 elective surgeries will be delivered through private hospitals by the end of June.
Ramsay Health Care Australia CEO Carmel Monaghan said the announcement was a demonstration of the Crisafulli Government’s commitment to patients early in its first term.
“Providing patients with timely access to diagnoses and treatments is a great outcome and I want to congratulate the Minister and Government on their proactive and collaborative approach to tackling an issue that impacts all Queenslanders,” Ms Monaghan said.
“Ramsay Health Care operates 20 private hospitals in Queensland and is well-placed to relieve pressure on the public system by partnering with the Government to bring down surgical waiting lists.”
Types of admissions to be covered by the Surgery Connect program include procedures for ophthalmology, gynaecology, endoscopy, ear nose and throat, urology, orthopaedics and general surgery.
“We thank the Crisafulli Government for working with us on this important initiative and look forward to collaborating further to ensure Queenslanders receive the care they deserve in a timely manner,” Ms Monaghan said.
