The à la carte menu is accessible across all private wards via a QR code, or meal support hotline if patients prefer, allowing for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks to be ordered on demand.

The system is designed to offer freshly cooked and prepared meals suited to individual dietary requirements and preferences, including a wide variety of clear fluids, minced and pureed options for those on special diets.

Catering Manager Jeremy Coffey highlighted the significant effort involved.

“This new program represents a considerable undertaking. Our team now prepares hundreds of varied meals around the clock, transforming our service from set mealtimes with fewer choices to a continuous offering for our patients,” he said.

The enhanced dining experience is supported by a new purpose-built kitchen, part of Ramsay Health Care’s (RHC) recent $166 million investment to expand the private hospital facilities and provide a better experience for privately insured patients in Perth’s fast-growing northern corridor.

“We’ve welcomed additional chefs to our team, and the kitchen itself is designed with restaurant-style features, enabling us to efficiently cater to a high volume of personalised meal requests,” Jeremy said.

The online ordering system contributes to RHC’s sustainability goals by reducing food waste by up to 30 percent. Joondalup Health Campus (JHC) has also rolled out a QR-code ordering system in its public wards, enabling patients to select and modify food choices.

JHC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Steve Cohen-Jones said the private à la carte dining experience reaffirms the hospital’s commitment to delivering personalised care and an exceptional patient experience.

“We want patients to depart feeling nourished, rested and well cared for. We believe that great food can be a highlight of their experience,” he said.

The new dining initiative complements existing premium services, such as the high tea experience offered to private maternity patients.

The introduction of the à la carte program follows the opening of Ramsay Private at Joondalup Health Campus’ expanded facilities, featuring six state-of-the-art operating suites (two shared public/private), two day procedure suites, a day surgery admissions unit, private rooms with calming views of Lake Joondalup and the new Einsteins cafe.
